How to Add One-Time Add-Ons and Charges in ChargeBee

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of adding one-time add-ons and charges in ChargeBee. You have two options for doing this: at the customer level or at the subscription level. We'll help you understand when to use each method.

Understanding Customer Level vs. Subscription Level

Customer Level: This is ideal for charges that don't belong to any specific subscription. Examples include a one-time onboarding fee or physical goods that aren't part of any plan.

Subscription Level: Use this for charges tied to a particular subscription, such as premium support. These charges will appear under that subscription's billing history.

Adding One-Time Add-Ons and Charges at the Customer Level

  1. Navigate to the Customers tab.

  2. Select the customer you want to bill.

  3. On the right, under Billing Actions, click Add one-time add-ons and quick charges.

  4. Add a one-time add-on from your catalog. If you have a quick charge to add, include that as well.

  5. Confirm or update the shipping info, especially if billing for physical products.

  6. Fill in the payment method, PO number, and leave invoice notes for future reference.

  7. Click Add. The charge will be added and reflected on the customer's invoice, even though it's not tied to any specific subscription.

Adding One-Time Add-Ons and Charges at the Subscription Level

  1. Open the subscription you want to update.

  2. On the right, under Billing Actions, click Add one-time add-ons and quick charges.

  3. This screen is similar to the customer level view, but any add-on or charge you add will be associated with this specific subscription.

  4. Fill in the necessary fields.

  5. Click Add. This generates an invoice with the required add-ons added to this particular subscription.

By following these steps, ChargeBee provides you with the flexibility to add add-ons and charges to both customer and subscription records. Thank you for watching!
